The International Motor Racing Research Center (IMRRC) is based in Watkins Glen, New York, just ten minutes’ drive from the circuit which hosted the US Grand Prix between 1961 and 1980.
I ticked two items off my bucket list during my visit. Not only did I give a talk there, but I sat in one of their fabulous director’s chairs!
My thanks go to the Center’s actual director, Margaret Lawrence, and her team, especially Rick, who took me up to the circuit and drove me round the old road course too. The long sloping left-hander leading down to a right-angled left hander – I keep thinking about what that must have been like with drum brakes…
